As their list of pet-friendly hotels/motels, bed & breakfasts and attractions grew, a list was compiled with the basic information on each entry. As word of the "list" got around to pet owners in other areas, requests flowed in for copies. So many that the group's founder, Nanci Cosentino, went to her own veterinarian and got help putting together travel tips and answers to the questions her doctor had been asked most frequently by owners preparing to travel with their pets. Armed with that information, the group went back to the establishments on their list asking that they guarantee their pet policy for one year. With those establishments who agreed to the guarantee, the travel tips and answers to the frequently asked questions, the group set out to produce a pet travel directory.
In 1992, TPOA produced its first directory, guaranteed reliable, to a host of fanfare from the travel and news media. The rest is history as they say. Now, TPOA has joined forces with Vacation Guides USA to better serve the traveling pets of America and their owners.
