Airlines & Pets

This is not a good combination and flying should never be the transportation mode of choice; however, sometimes, there is no choice. For that reason, airline restriction information (provided by the airline carriers themselves) will be delinated here. If you have additional questions or require clarification, please contact the customer service division of the individual airlines. Due to space restrictions, we are unable to cover ALL airlines which fly within the United States. We will cover the major carriers as best we can.

First, a few do's & don'ts of pet flying. During the summer months, schedule early morning and late evening flights, avoiding the hotest time of the day. In winter months, do the reverse, try to schedule flights during the daylight hours, instead of the ice cold of the early morning and late evening. Never, ever, under any circumstances, put a pet on a flight where craft changes are necessary and if it is not possible to put your pet on a straight flight, don't send it on that airline on that day. Also, every attempt should be made to put your pet on a non-stop flight. The cargo hole on the tarmac is a furnace in the summer and ice box in the winter.

There are two classes of pet travel when flying, in cabin or as cargo. If there is a passenger traveling with the pet and the pet is small enough to fit in an underseat carrier (must be able to stand and turn 360 degrees in the carrier), they may be able to fly in the pressurized cabin. Regulations vary by airline (some do not allow any four-legged live animals in the cabin, allows allow a maximum of two per class). First, we will cover the regulations for those carriers who allow pets in cabin. All information provided by the individual carriers either by phone or on their web site.

To check the policies and in some cases the expense of flying your pet for individual air carriers, click on that carrier's name below. We will attempt to keep the policies and prices current, but you are advised you should check both with the carrier when making reservations and reservations ARE REQUIRED for pets in cabin as well as in the cargo hole.

Not all airlines' information will be included here. Not all airlines ship pets, so they are not included. Some airlines are in a financial situation which puts their continuing service in question, so they are not included. We will include regional airlines as time allows us to upload their information. If there is an airline which you would like us to include that is not listed and you believe does not fall within the exclusion categories, please email us.
